The redesigned search results page offers flexibility, allowing you to customize the experience to meet the needs of your organization and users. With the Search Settings API, you can define what users see and how they interact with their search results. You can customize the following:

  • Show or hide flyout
By default, the flyout results appear as users type, offering additional context and actions. If preferred, you can disable the flyout so that results only appear after users click Enter.
  • Set up a custom redirect URL
This is the URL to which users are redirected when they enter a specific keyword. For example, if a user searches for vacation, they are redirected to an external site, such as your federated search, along with the search query.
  • Customize sections
You can customize both internal and integration sections to better align your organization’s structure, language, and priorities. The available customization options include:
    • Rename or reorder sections
Customize section titles to align with your organization’s language and rearrange them based on importance.
For example, you can reposition News to the bottom of the internal section or rename Apps & Links to Launchpad and move it to the top.
Items within the internal and integration sections can be renamed and reordered within their respective sections. However, changing the position of the internal and integration sections is not possible.
    • Show or hide sections
Control which result sections appear to users by displaying only the most relevant to your audience. For example, you can hide Apps & Links and Pages if you prefer not to display search results from them.
    • Customize the section further
Further customize each section by changing the icon, editing localization strings, or selecting a different sorting option.
    • Customize Microsoft 365 and ServiceNow integrations
Define which SharePoint sites should display in the Microsoft 365 search results and configure which knowledge base systems are searchable through the ServiceNow integration.
  • Reset to default settings
Easily remove previously configured customizations to restore the default search experience.
